Stone Removal from Pea and Pinto Beans | Density Separation Test Results
Background
Rocks harvested alongside dry beans are difficult to remove when density differences between product and contaminant are minimal. Triple/S conducted a series of separation tests on pea beans and pinto beans, both whole and split, using the S-22 Stoner and V-135 Gravity Separator to evaluate fluidized-bed performance across varying density conditions.
Procedure
Customer-supplied samples of pea beans, whole pinto beans, and pinto splits were tested alongside pre-weighed rock samples. All three were run through the S-22 Stoner, which uses fluidized-bed separation to exploit density differences between product and contaminant. Pinto splits present a more complex separation challenge due to their irregular shape and received an additional pass through the Sutton Model V-135 Gravity Separator for secondary rock removal.
